I have been building a house for my beloved dog Myeong-rang. The house is designed as a hexagonal shape creating a dome structure in the completed form. Based on an environmental analysis, the entrance of the house is towards the south to get minimum rainfalls from the opening (the south is the weakest wind direction of the site), while getting maximum sunlight in the winter and minimum sunlight in the summer.
The foundation was built with poured earth stabilised with lime. Please read the detail information of the construction of the foundation at the blog Build a doghouse with earth_Part1: Plan and Foundation
Fabric formed rammed earth technology was applied to build the wall. Please read the detail information of the construction at the blog Build a doghouse with earth_Part2: The Design and Fabrication of Fabric Formwork and the blog Build a doghouse with earth_Part3: ramming course and the completion of fabric formed rammed earth.
The house is not only an excellent house for my dog Myeong-Rang maintaining a pleasant temperature and humidity throughout four distinctive seasons, but also a prototype for me to examine how fabric formed rammed earth performs by changing environmental stresses. (Read my observation about the house at the blog To what extent is the fabric formed rammed earth wall eroded after 5 months?)
After completing the Phase 1 in 2020, I have recently laid bricks on the wall and repaired the erosion of the wall. The Phase 2 construction will be resumed soon.
